Seaton Tramway Volunteer Tram Driver Featured in New BBC Thriller 'Nightsleeper'
17th September, 2024
Seaton Tramway is thrilled to share that one of its passionate volunteer tram drivers, Matthew Streeton, is featured in the BBC thriller Nightsleeper, now showing on the BBC.
Matthew is widely known not just at Seaton Tramway but across the UK rail network. After working in the railway industry in the South East of England, he became a voice for around 200 stations, delivering automated platform announcements between London and Sussex. His familiar announcements, including the iconic “Please mind the gap,” are heard daily by passengers at major stations like London Victoria, Brighton, and others along the route.
In addition to his railway work, Matthew has amassed a huge online following. With over 172,000 followers on TikTok under the handle @matt_thetrainguy, he shares engaging content about the world of railways, his experiences as a train announcer, and insights into the behind-the-scenes workings of the UK’s rail services.
His real-world railway voice made him the perfect choice to lend it to Nightsleeper, a gripping thriller that follows a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London, hijacked in a cyber attack. Matthew’s voice brings authenticity to the high-stakes drama.
“Honestly, I never expected to be involved in something like Nightsleeper,” Matthew says. “It was a bit surreal being asked to lend my voice to the series. I’m just used to hearing my announcements at the stations or sharing little moments on TikTok. But it was an amazing experience, and I’m really grateful for the opportunity.”
You can hear Matt's voice at various points throughout the series which is being shown on BBC One, or on iPlayer.
Seaton Tramway is open daily until 3rd November. You can find out more at tram.co.uk
